Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

So far? How satisfying it is to use a nail gun when I'm bored and angry.

[ she sighs. ]

I'm still sort of trying to find the sculpture in here. If I even end up with one.

[ Sometimes, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is just a duck. Or, in this case, a pissed off teenager with a nail gun. ]

And if you don't it's wanton destruction. [ SHRUG. ] Yeah, that makes sense.

When it doesn't, you know. Kill people. A fun disclaimer I have to add to things now.

[ The light mood dries up a bit as Peregrine grimaces. ]

It's so messed up. Like, we have to worry about enough as it is, and now this?

I mean I'm not going to say no one's ever been stabbed at my school, because I'd be lying, but this is a little extreme even for the average hardened Chicago teen.

Yeah, if someone ever got stabbed in Whitetail, they'd probably hold a memorial telling us to respect each other's feelings and then forget about it.

Oof. No one's full-on died since I entered high school, but we've had some fun assemblies where they ask us nicely to stop pulling knives on each other in the lunchroom. But, uh... y'know, note the plural and all.

It's 'cause they can never commit to it. To anything more than telling us to sit down and shut up, and take no responsibility beyond that.

[ a mock gasp ]

Peregrine, are you suggesting adults have trouble caring about actually improving conditions for us young people?

[ She sighs out, heavily. Thinking about this is just going to get her wound up even more. ]

So. Chicago. What's it like in the grand ol' big city?

Uh... we got architecture, we got The Bean, we got just a crazy number of theaters and art galleries and stuff... it's great. Lots of different kinds of people. You're out somewhere less loud, I'm guessing?

[comeandfindme]

[ Peregrine mouths "The Bean?" in confusion but lets it pass. ]

Whitetail, Minnesota's got a population of about 900 people.

[ Yeah. ]

Yeah, that'll do it. Out in the land of forests and lakes, huh?

Yeah... Yeah, just like that. Whole town's surrounded by it.

[fourbutts]

Huh. Must look nice, at least?

Yeah. ...You just gotta be careful. The woods shouldn't be messed with.

Oh, for sure. I have no desire to uh... you know, reenact the end of The VVitch or anything.

[ why yes she does pronounce both Vs ]
