Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

[Discord isn't actually seeking anyone out, right now, so much as just... wandering. Not his usual wandering. So he's surprisingly not here to antagonize Maya. In fact, after a moment where he considers doing just that, he goes to turn and leave, leaving her to her, ah. Mannequin therapy.

Except he bumps right into the boombox and oh god there goes Dancing Queen, blasting at full volume.

It's that kind of day.]

[Maya's right in the middle of slashing down with her blade when the music starts. Startled as she is, the grip on her sword loosens, and it clatters to the ground. She turns immediately, afraid at first, then altogether irritated at the sight of discord.]

Must you disturb me at every moment?

[disharmonizes]

Is this a trick question?

[He actually looks a little awkward, just. kicking that boombox, hoping that might turn it off.

it does not.]

[mayavericks]

[Don't mind her, just storming over. She slams a finger down on the stop button, before straightening back out.]

Unless you have something worthwhile to say, I request you leave.

[disharmonizes]

[He huffs, crossing his arms.]

It's not like I need your permission to be here! I can go wherever I want!

[mayavericks]

If you can go wherever you want, go elsewhere.

Yes, well, maybe I've decided I want to be here!

You can still take out your frustration on innocent mannequins for all I care, I'm not stopping you!

Fight you? [For a moment just looking actually surprised at the idea.] I-- Well.

[Weapon. Okay. He can definitely grab one of those. Uh... let's take a look around for one, okay.]

The scene shop, if you prefer a sword.

[She jerks her head that way.]

[disharmonizes]

Hm, well, first time for everything.

[He'll just disappear for a bit then and go get. A sword. Sure. Come on, Discord, how hard can sword fighting be?]

[mayavericks]

[She's already certain of the outcome here but... Practice is practice, she supposes.

While she waits for his return, she turns her attention back to the mannequin.]

[disharmonizes]

[He does come back, carrying a plastic cutlass. Well, it's a sword. More pirate than duelist, but we work with what we got here.

He twirls it a little bit, definitely all sorts of out of his depth, but when has that stopped him literally ever?]

Usually my battlefields are a little more interesting and a little less battle-y, but I can make an exception every few eons, I suppose.

[mayavericks]

[There's a half smile on her lips, darkly amused at his bumbling. It'll be good to have the upper-hand against him for once.]

Prefer to pull the strings from the shadows, I assume.

[She steps forward, taking a ready position.]

[disharmonizes]

A good guess! And a correct one, so full points.

[He'll just stand across from her, sort of waving the sword through the air a moment, getting a feel for it.]

So, then, do you go first, or...

[mayavericks]

[Maya doesn't respond verbally. Instead, she darts forward, seeking to slap Discord against the side with the flat of her blade.]

[disharmonizes]

[Well, Discord is making an... attempt. He has decent dexterity, but he's no swordfighter. Like we didn't all know Maya was going to wipe the floor with him.

rip in fuck Discord]

[mayavericks]

[At least Maya looks like she's in a slightly better mood. Look at you, Discord! Great job! She'll even hold out a hand to shake when it's all said and done.]

I think a Lord of Chaos should have better swordsmanship. Would you like lessons?

[disharmonizes]

Yes, well, I'm used to just being able to let magic handle it. In which case I could make the swords sing and dance, too, now that might be more fun.

I'm not sure that sword fighting the normal way will come up a lot.

[mayavericks]

And I am sure you thought that before you met me, as well. Yet here you are, being schooled by a young woman in swordsmanship.

I would hate for you to be caught unawares in the future, is all.

Well, embarrassingly enough, not the first time I've suffered a defeat. Though the last time had more rainbows involved, a real light show. This one's been less impressive.

[Maybe get some rainbow friendship lasers in your sword act, Maya, gosh.]

Maybe if I get ambushed my an assailant, I'll just throw the sword. That always works, right?

[mayavericks]

Rainbows? [She tilts her head.] I would prefer fire in my fights, honestly. Pyrotechnics, specifically.

[But. She shrugs.]

Throwing your sword at a moving target is a terrible idea, especially if you haven't practiced.

[disharmonizes]

So you're saying I should train sword throwing.

[mayavericks]

You absolutely should not practice throwing swords. At all.

[disharmonizes]

You're right, swords are a big step. Knives are smaller, I'll practice with those, first.
