Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday

(( No new locations this week, since y'all haven't paid in blood! Hester's office hours are still open, as are regains! Make sure to complete your first activity check by Tuesday! ))

[That. Sure was a thing! Elsa's become much more comfortable being in front of people these past few years, so the idea of doing this with everyone wasn't intimidating. It was more her old insecurities acting up again; she was so unsure of herself, worrying if her performance could stand up to all the others. Even if this was mostly for fun, the last thing she wanted was to drag everyone down, after all.

But it had all been... great. They'd sang and acted and the energy coming off of all of them warmed Elsa's heart in a way that nothing in this place had been able to so far. It had loosened her careful hold on herself, helping her ride the energy and give it all she had alongside Cassandra and Spongebob. She was still riding that high after the final number, so when Salieri got together the afterparty, Elsa happily follows the rest to the refreshments... and hovers around the mead.]

Is this... good?

[She's never had alcohol before. Maybe a sip of wine here or there, as a bit of a customary toast during formal parties and such, but a sip was all it was. She's never really had a full glass - she wasn't sure how alcohol would react with her magic, so she had to be careful. Still... she was curious.]

It's not terrible?

[It's fascinating how in-sync Cassandra and Elsa's performances had been. A fantastic mixing of voices that made their scenes really pop. So, not only was Cassandra riding the same high as Elsa, but she had even indulged a bit in the same mead.

Alcohol wasn't customary for the rank-and-file servants of Corona's castle. More of a hobby and past time for some, but not Cassandra. She didn't touch the thought, believe it would dull her senses. The fuzziness in her head that was simultaneously setting her face aglow seemed to confirm that. Not that she terribly minded.
]

And trust me... I do not drink much.

[It's strange, to really sync with someone like that. Not strange in a bad way, but in a way that Elsa's never experienced before. To move and hear and feel the way their voices flow together in perfect harmony was an amazing feeling, and she'd be lying if she said there wasn't still a hint of that buzz as Cassandra speaks up.

... And Elsa has to laugh. It seems the other woman has been causing a lot of that in her lately.]

Your red face seems to support that claim. Are you feeling okay?

Who, me? Pfff. [Harmony! That's the word of it. Their harmony had exceeded Cassandra's, admittedly pretty meager, expectations. The high she felt from actually accomplishing such a feat was continuing to soar into the party. Of course, that may have also been the mead.]

I'm just fine! Going great! [A thumbs up! See? Fine!] How about you?

[Angus takes a large swig of the mead. He's seen the Hootsman down a pint of beer in seconds, but to be fair, that beer was much thinner than this drink. He ends up having to pause for breath halfway through.]

How long it has been since I've had mead! Please, you must try some, Your Highness!

[He dips a cup into the barrel and hands it over to Elsa.]

[personal profile] defyingfrigidity 2021-06-08 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh well that's! Forward! Elsa only laughs, though, and takes the cup from him.]

Is the alcohol very strong in this? [... Not that she's judging his cheer or anything. It's just a genuine question.] I admit, I've never had any kind of alcohol in any meaningful quantity before. I'm not sure how this will affect me.
mcfife: (🦄 now I must quest)

[personal profile] mcfife 2021-06-08 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It is not too strong, though that may depend on the batch. The sweetness is what matters most.

[Swig.]

Still good.

[Well, she doesn't swig it like he does, but Elsa will take a tiny sip...... and then another. There's a curious spark in her eyes as the drink hits her, and she looks down into her cup, somewhat surprised.]

Oh... wow. I can certainly understand now how easy it would be to, ah... go a bit overboard with this drink.
mcfife: heartfelt (☀️all that I've known here)

[personal profile] mcfife 2021-06-10 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a good thing that Salieri didn't make too much. [Angus takes a seat and gestures for Elsa to sit as well.] But a bit of mead is needed for any gathering of friends, especially after a hard day's work.

I like to think so. [he'll offer her a cup, then] Though I might be biased, seeing as I made it myself.
defyingfrigidity: (and you can't pull me down)

[personal profile] defyingfrigidity 2021-06-08 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Very impressive, considering our current situation. [She laughs, taking the offered cup.] Though I'm more worried about the alcohol in it. I've never really indulged in anything other than a few sips of wine on rare occasions. I can't be sure how I'll, ah... react to it.

If it's any reassurance, short mead is not particularly strong due to the rather short time it's had to age.

Hm... that is true...

[... Oh, what the hell? If they're trapped in a mysterious facility where they've been encouraged to kill others, she might as well take these chances to try new things. While she still can.

Besides, she's norse. It would be just embarrassing if she refused to drink the drink of her people. So without further ado, she lifts the cup and takes a large swig of it - not to down the whole thing in one go, because she still has manners she hasn't quite loosened up just yet.]

... Oh! It's very sweet! [Which. You know. Honey and all. But she wasn't really expecting it to be like that.] Amazing that you were able to make all of this on such short notice.

[Salieri looks pleased by the praise]

Ah, yes, well...hence the term short mead. Most mead needs at least two weeks minimum to ferment, but this one needs only five days to be drinkable.

[Hmm. Elsa takes another sip.]

Is there much difference in how it tastes? Or is it just how potent the alcohol in it is?

[personal profile] violentenvies 2021-06-11 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
A bit of both. It allows the flavors of the herbs to better disperse in the mead, as well as makes it stronger.
