Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

What are you talking about, you were amazing! You were like a professional out there! I honestly thought it was an honor to work alongside you for this.

She still clicks her tongue and shakes her head, though.]

I don't expect you to understand. I am glad you found my performance to be adequate, though.

Wha-? Of course I understand! I've seen movies and plays before after all, I like to think I'd recognize talent if I see it!

Besides I thought it was more than adequate; it was fantastic!

[He beams at her.]

You have not spent your entire life dedicated to living these performances!

[Maya doesn't quite realize that the sound of her voice has risen until it's... already come out.]

I... apologize. You are being kind to me. I appreciate it....

[Oh well that's a surprise. Tears start welling up out of instinct at the tone of her voice.

But then it hits him what she's saying and his expression softens.]

Hey, I understand! I live for the Krusty Krab and every time I screw up I notice it a mile away and I can't stop thinking about it for weeks on end. Neptune, if I had a quarter for every time I cried at work I would actually be getting paid!

But it's not like this is a big professional show, right? It's just a fun thing we're doing as friends! You can't enjoy life if you're constantly worrying about every little thing, right?

[Maya recoils at the sight of those tears. It's unexpected, certainly. But what's more unexpected is the way Spongebob responds. He's clearly been upset by her outburst, but he's still trying to console her?

She blinks a few times. When she speaks, her voice is softer.]

If I do not treat every performance like it could be my last, then I will grow complacent.

[Spongebob shrugs.]

Well I guess I can't argue with that! That's part of the reason why I made these little beauties for the after party! [He holds up a Krabby Patty slider.] But if you act like every performance is the last, shouldn't you also treasure every single performance?

[Maya... actually looks a little surprised at that.]

Will that not also -- [She shakes her head.] No. You are right, Spongebob. Thank you.

[He beams at her.]

Hey, what are friends for? I'm sure you'd do the same if I was in your shoes, after all!

[He has no evidence of this]
