Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

[He picks it up holding it out. Unfortunately, Connor isn't my character with, uh. A deep, significant relationship to a jacket.]

[Maya turns on him, expression dark.]

It is not mine.

[It can't be. It's that easy.]

Okaaaaaaaay. Should I... toss it then? [He's searching her face for, like, some hint of what to do.] We could burn it, if you want.

[mayavericks]

[She places a hand on her hip, squinting back at the man.]

Do you think I care what you do with a jacket you found on the floor? [After a moment, though, her posture relaxes.]

Just. Give it to me. I will find a place for it.

[He holds it out.]

I mean, I think you care about what happens to a jacket that I found on the floor that you seemed upset about.

[mayavericks]

[She takes the jacket back and... holds it over her shoulder. Maybe she'd imagined it. Maybe now it will stay in place.

The second it starts to slide, though, she lifts a hand to hold it in place. Her jaw clenches for a moment.]

It's not meant to be damaged. Not in this way.

Do you want to... fix it? Or does it being damaged like that, uh, mean something?

Oh, I'm just [He blindly presses some buttons on one of the other vending machines.] here for some snacks. You know how it is.

[Actually, he's here to put some mysterious coins in the other vending machine but. They're having this conversation now, apparently.]

Of course. Snacks. [She glances between the boy, the machines, and then down to the red of her jacket.]

You ought to be wary over here. These machines are known for spitting out all sorts of surprises.

[Like. You know. 76 Trombones.]

Then it's probably a good thing I don't fear anything. [He grabs the candy bar that dropped down and unwraps it.] Especially not trombones.

[He takes a bite of the candy bar, as if to punctuate his point.]

Is that so? [Her smile is tense, clearly reflecting her current mental state.]

It seems you and I may have more in common than I might have thought.

Is that so? [He did swallow before saying that at least.] Guess it's a private school thing.

[mayavericks]

A private school thing, of course. [The smile thins all the more.]

Though... 76 trombones? That comes close.

Sometimes life comes at you fast and you must simply accept your fate. Which is getting kicked in the brass.

[Maya normally isn't one to laugh at such a pun. However... It's already been a long day. A small snort wouldn't completely damage her reputation.]

I'm not one to handle loss well. I will have to ensure that the machine does not get the advantage on me again.

You just gotta put the coin in and get ready to immediately dodge if that shit. It's good reflex training.

[He smiles, just a little.]

Reflex training, hm?

[Well... She can't help but match that small smile.]

I always welcome a chance to practice.

Yup. If you can dodge a trombone, you can dodge a ball.

[You know, reflex training! This is absolutely a real thing and not some bullshit Connor's saying.]

It surely would give me some practice in avoiding projectiles.
