Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

[This room is not really Discord's thing - even more so than the others - so he wouldn't be stopping by if not for those sounds. He can't pass by and not at least check it out.

And... Okay. You know what. The swordplay? He didn't see that one coming.]

See, now, this performance is already waaaay more exciting than the last.

[mayavericks]

[Maya hardly spares a glance toward Discord. She's in the midst of a complicated flurry, humming to herself even as she works.

Eventually, though, she does turn. She wipes the sweat from her brow before placing a hand on her hip.]

You didn't think it was all ballet and ballads, did you?

[disharmonizes]

I have to confess that I did. But in this case, I'm happy to be proven wrong. Overachieving swashbuckler, now that has a nice ring to it.

[mayavericks]

I prefer overachieving duelist if you must insist on a title. [She gives a bow, sword tucked at her side.] Thank you, though, for your kindness.

[disharmonizes]

Oh, kindness is a virtue I'm known for. And loyalty, generosity-- I should get a medal.

[A sparkly magical one. Or six.]

But if semantics are that important, then duelist, sure.

[mayavericks]

I'll be sure to head over to the scene shop and make you one right away.

[She turns her attention back to the mannequin.]

What about you? Any such titles beneath your belt?

[disharmonizes]

Oh, I'm pretty fond of the title they gave me here. It's not every day you get officially labeled the best at something as impressive as being the worst.

Usually I just go with Lord of Chaos, but this is fun, too.

[mayavericks]

It's a shame they've stooped to trying to flatter you. It certainly hasn't done anything to temper your ego, after all.

[disharmonizes]

I wouldn't hold your breath on that. When you're as great as I am, there's no point in denying it. You have to embrace it!

[mayavericks]

So your frantic jabbing has only been, what? Projecting your own insecurities on me? [She tips her chin up.] The better title might have been Overachieving Underachiever.

[disharmonizes]

It's adorable you think I have insecurities. I'm far too evolved for that. I'm simply calling things as I see them.

It's not my fault you're easy to see through.

[She just reminds him of someone and, well, it was easy to make assumptions from there.]

[mayavericks]

Even if you were getting to me, how long has it taken you? You have been stabbing in the dark blindly for over a week now. I would hardly call that easy to see through.

[disharmonizes]

Perfectionist, tightly wound, trying much, much too hard?

No, you're right, you're so complex. My tiny mind could never comprehend it. [He shrugs, looking amused.] It's just the sword that's a surprise.

[mayavericks]

And I imagine that you would say anyone who didn't hold themselves to the subpar standards you hold yourself to would be considered too tightly wound? Is that correct?

[At the mention of the sword, she extends the blade. It's dull enough that she doesn't feel too guilty prodding him with it.]

[He chuckles a bit at the prodding, not too bothered.]

Not at all. There's plenty of people here I wouldn't call that, despite our standards being very different.

Calling mine subpar is a little impolite, but I won't take it personally. They're a little above everyone's level, anyway.

[he's living up to his title of being the worst, at least. no one cares, Discord]

I don't know what else you expect me to call your apparent need to slack off at any given moment.

Do you have a suggestion?

[disharmonizes]

I simply don't waste my time on anything that's not really worth it.

Not to mention, well, why improve perfection? No need to work on anything at all when you're already the best.

[mayavericks]

Then I imagine you need quite a bit of work.

[disharmonizes]

A little childish as far as retorts go.

See, that's the sort of thing that could use improvement. You can do better.

[mayavericks]

Of course. Let me abandon my daily duties then, and sulk about as your protege, then.

[disharmonizes]

Look at that, you're already doing better! Such a quick study.

[And he puts a handkerchief to his eyes to wipe away absolutely nothing.]

They grow up so fast.

Is this how you bother Salieri-sensei, then? Driving him to his wits end?

[disharmonizes]

Oh, yes! It's sort of our thing.

Well, it's sort of my thing with everyone right now.

[mayavericks]

It sounds exhausting. Never mind the fact that it is entirely predictable.

[disharmonizes]

[There's that annoying comment again. This time, at least, he's a bit more prepared to ignore it.]

Oh, it's much more fun on my end. Usually I wouldn't spend so much time on the matter, but, well. You all are kind of the only entertainment I have here.
