[Another week, and two more dead. King Richard and Red are both gone, and once again, it was through nothing more than an accident in the heat of the moment. Maybe if you all stay calm and collected, nothing bad will happen again?

Well, maybe not.

When you wake on Sunday, you'll find that you've recovered another one of those memories - or had another dream, if you still wanna be in denial about it. The grounds remain as they are, but this time, the door blocking the stairwell has been unsealed. You can now venture up to the second floor! This is the second time that's happened; it's almost as if you get more space every time someone dies. Or maybe the whole place just seems quieter.]

[Angus jerks back at suddenly finding someone behind him- It’s just Mephisto. He’s fine.]

What? Oh, that. I would love a rematch. . [He knocks on the door twice with a big smile.] But all of Tad Cooper’s food is in there.

[heathencall]

[Mephisto should be offended that he's being dismissed as not a threat so readily but... It's fine.]

What have you been feeding it, anyway? [A beat. He pauses, remembering the awful octocat he has stuck on his arm.]

Do you think he'll eat this.

[It hisses.]

[mcfife]

[Angus considers the horrifying octocat.

...

He stops considering the octocat.]

He's to small to hunt something of that size.

[heathencall]

[So much for that! Dammit.]

Are you sure? It can't hurt to challenge him.

[mcfife]

That vicious beast would easily tear him apart! I will see that my dragon is harmed for no reason.

[Also he is a BABY]

[heathencall]

It's not vicious. It just likes to... hold things.

[Free him Angus, please.]

What kind of dragon is it that it can't fight a cat?

[mcfife]

Would you prefer that I fight it if you desire to see it defeated?

[heathencall]

[Mephisto looks properly scandalized.]

You'd beat up small animals, Prince of Fife?

[mcfife]

[Angus is about to say something in response, closes his mouth, and opens it again absolutely at loss for words.]

No. What sort of evil person would hurt the innocent? [Like feral octocats.]

[heathencall]

Good. I'd hoped you might say that.

[He taps the octocat on the head. It's like petting, right?]

[mcfife]

[He watches the octocat for a minute. It's...rather charming, once it relaxes.]

Why do you say that?

[heathencall]

Why do you think?

[He motions with his free arm to the opera house around them.]

Surely you've seen how many innocent lives occupy this place. It's good to know our Prince will continue to still his hand.

[mcfife]

[It may be to the late hour. It may be due to his horrible state of mind this week, but this comes as a bit of a surprise to Angus. Mephisto still trusts him despite how Angus had mistrusted him the past. And if taker of souls believes in him, how can Angus not?

He relaxes, smiling.]

You have a talent for encouraging others. Something I have been unable to do for some time.

[heathencall]

Do I?

[That hadn't been his intention. More... sizing the man up than anything else. Trying to understand whether or not he could be trusted after all their talks of weakness. But if Angus wants to take it as encouragement, Mephisto won't argue.]

I suppose we've all come to terms with our more... unknown strengths since arriving here.

[mcfife]

There is no shame in discovering a strength late in your life.

[He folds his hands together to stretch his arms out. It's been a long week.]

You should continue to do so, if you desire to live among humans more often. We appreciate those who know how to uplift others.

[heathencall]

[He'll let that first comment slide but -- ]

And what makes you think I will continue to live amongst humans after this?

[He sounds just... a little defensive.]

[mcfife]

You seem fond of us. [That much was obvious after their most recent talk.] You've changed your opinion on our...worth.

[Worth.

That word sounds sickening and strong in his stomach.]

[heathencall]

A handful of humans isn't enough to change my opinion on the entire race.

[He sounds... a little defensive.]

I am sure that I am not the only person that's been changed by this place.

[mcfife]

I wouldn't say that is a good thing.

[Angus is fine. He'll be fine. He just has to wait until morning.]

No one here- No one should have gone through all of this.

[heathencall]

And I wouldn't dream of saying it is. But we should... "count our blessings" yes? One, that I am not working against you lot. Two, that we have such a noble prince at our side.

[mcfife]

[Angus' mouth tightens - how can a demigod say such a thing to him? He may not trust humanity in general, but he puts so much trust into him.]

I have seen many worlds
and traveled through time
But nothing prepares
For trust in great strife

[Mephisto has such incredible faith in him. It may be enough.]
