week 4
[Another week, and two more dead. King Richard and Red are both gone, and once again, it was through nothing more than an accident in the heat of the moment. Maybe if you all stay calm and collected, nothing bad will happen again?
Well, maybe not.
When you wake on Sunday, you'll find that you've recovered another one of those memories - or had another dream, if you still wanna be in denial about it. The grounds remain as they are, but this time, the door blocking the stairwell has been unsealed. You can now venture up to the second floor! This is the second time that's happened; it's almost as if you get more space every time someone dies. Or maybe the whole place just seems quieter.]
Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday
(( Welcome to Week 4! Please remember to submit your AC and your memory regains, as well as your coins! You can also still contact the Phantom. ))

But Riley does not do that. She's got a job to do. Even as she mutters and murmurs, almost stammering-- ] Oh my god, oh my god oh god--
[ She can't stop it. But she keeps going. She's going to keep her arms as steady as possible. She's not going to cry. A few little gasps, but no crying. Very carefully. ]
W-we need to- [ Dammit, not now. Riley tells herself it's fine, not to focus on it. ] Keep it steady. S-S-Santana! [ She turns to- oh thank god, a first aid kit. ] I-I'm gonna need some tweezers. In a minute.
no subject
She grabs them, turns to Riley, and has to resist the urge to cry out, to panic and make things worse. Mephisto does not look good. Santana isn’t used to caring for people, but right now, she really, really wants Medieval Times to be okay.
She passes the tweezers to Riley, her voice and hands shaking just a little. ]
Here. We — we’ve got bandages and antibiotic ointment, if you need it.

But there's guilt there too. If he's learned anything, Santana doesn't like to be seen as vulnerable. And here she is, emotions bared in front of three separate people.
And then the moment is gone, whatever dam he'd managed to place out ahead of the next wave of pain crumbles. He drops his head, falling back onto his arm as another snarl rips its way through him.]

[ She removes one hand from Mephisto's tattered wing to take the tweezers. Her hand's likewise shaking. They've got that much in common.
The wing looks bad. She's not going to ask Mephisto how he's doing. Not when he's biting down on that cloth. She's just going to...start very carefully pulling shards from his wing. Keep the water on it, keep flushing out chemicals. And murmur to herself. Something along the lines of it's fine, it's okay, it'll all be okay. ]

If it were anyone else, he might have even said as much. But between the makeshift gag and the fact that it's Riley hovering over him, he remains silent. The guilt is a perfect stopper for whatever churning malice stems from his wounds.
At some point, either the pain grows more bearable, or the delirium reaches a fever pitch. It's only then that he allows himself to let go of his shirt. His breath still comes in short puffs, but he's at least not grinding his teeth together.]
You shouldn't have to see this.
no subject
I shouldn't h-h-have to s-see a lot of things. [ Riley really doesn't mean to be short with him. She's just trying not to freak out. Keep your eyes on the prize. Go for the gold. Other encouraging mental affirmations. ] Advil. Can you t-t-take Advil, d-does it work?
no subject
I'll try anything.
[He looks to his wing, all the more pitiful now that it's drenched. At least the water is helping. Everything still hurts, but at least he doesn't actively feel the more sensitive parts being eaten away.]
You're close. Almost there.
[He can't tell if he's comforting her or himself.]
no subject
[ She's terrified. Just keep working. Don't think about being terrified. Here we go. Riley continues picking glass, working diligently until she's done. ]
no subject
Riley. [He tilts his chin up, searching for her own gaze.] I'm sorry.
[That's.... about all he has in him. He'll remain half-leaned, half-flopped over the sink, shuddering wishing that someone might put him out of his misery.]
no subject
I'll b-b-be back in a few minutes.
[ Her voice is soft and shaking. Like she's afraid for anyone to hear her. She hurries to get him some painkillers. ]
no subject
But it doesn't go anywhere. He feels one wing slip away, back to the void it rested in, but the other one remains limp in the water.]
no subject
Okay. Okay, take this, and then I'll get some ointment on it, and it should all be okay.
no subject
It will be okay. [There's no conviction in that statement, just weak repetition.]
no subject
What happened? What were you thinking?
[ She's exhausted. ]
no subject
Stephen asked for my assistance. Another way of getting out of here. I was only meant to provide assistance but. [He glances over toward Stephen, then back to Riley.]
The glass broke. Right in his hands. It would have.... [He couldn't say what it would have done. He hadn't let himself consider it.]
I... Protected him.
no subject
Riley puts her face behind one hand, trying to maintain the stability she's managed. ]
You could- both of you could've- [ Riley's heart beats wildly. ] I wouldn't- I couldn't take-
[ She feels more like Jeremy right now. She can't get her sentences straight in her mouth. It's not something keeping her from talking, it's her own inability to comprehend that. ]
you're welcome
He'd like to think he manages well enough.]
I told you. I won't leave you.
you motherfucker.
Be more careful next time. [ She casts a look to Stephen as well. This is for him too. ]
no subject
There had better not be a next time.
[He glances over to Riley and... Finally lifts his good arm. He beckons her closer.]
I'm sorry.
no subject
whether not he's actually heard the two of them, he seems to register he's being looked at, and he manages a shaky smile]
no subject
Later. He'll deal with that later.]
no subject
I was so, so scared...! [ She'll get the ointment on in a minute. She will, she just- she needs a second. ]
no subject
But he's also happy to provide as much of a buffer for Riley from anything else as he can, even if it isn't much.]
I'm sorry. We should have -- [But they've said all of this before.] I'm sorry, Riley.
no subject
...I know you just want to find a way out but, it- ...it wouldn't be any good, if either of you weren't... [ Slow, slow breaths. She casts a glance at his poor wing. Next step, ointment, whatever bandaging she can actually do on a wing, that's going to be trial and error. ] Let's just. Get you somewhere you can rest. Okay?
no subject
[He eases off of Riley, swaying on his feet briefly before catching and stabilizing himself. His face tightens briefly, a small shudder rocking through him.]
If I sit anywhere, I won't be getting up. [A beat.] I should be able to make it down the stairs.
