WEEK 2
[From the day you arrived on the planet, and blinking, stepped into the sun. There's more to see than can ever be seen, and more to do than can ever be done. Yet, still, the whole thing seems...monotonous. Surely there must be some excitement, some showmanship, some sort of plot twist that could keep this show moving onward?

We don't have them back in my home. I... don't actually know how clothes are washed back home. The servants did all of it.

[She moves over to the machine and waits patiently. Is there something special she should be doing?]

[But she doesn't sound harsh or mean; no, D-ne says that rather sweetly, with a kind smile.] Well, Anna-san, to begin, usually you separate your light clothes and your dark clothes, so the former doesn't get dyed the color of the latter. But, ah, if there aren't many clothes that probably wouldn't be a concern?

[And with a few dresses and some pants, that is definitely just one load.]

I don't have anything light except a couple of shirts. I guess I always wear pretty dark clothes.

[Easier to keep clean with how active and all over the place she is.]

Then you should be fine to mix them. Now... Ah, here we are. Put in your detergent first. This is a small load...so follow these instructions, see?

[just fill it up a little basically]

[She nods and fills it to the correct line, reading the back of the bottle.]

So I just pour it into the washer now?

Into the washer, and then your clothes. Set it to cold.

[She does as instructed, then stares at the buttons. She's going to... press the cold one. That's it, right?]

What now?

This big button here.

[She'll let Anna press it for herself. Start the machine up with her own fingers.]

[Ever so delicately presses the button OH WHO IS KIDDING SHE IS GOING TO MASH THAT BUTTON HARD]

[Oh my god Anna what did that button do to you AND HERE WE GO that wonderful. humming bang of a washing machine.]

And now, you wait until it's done and then dry it, as simple as that.

[She doesn't know what strength she needs for modern buttons.

THAT NOISE DID SHE BREAK IT?!]

W-Why is it making that noise?

[it is a serious effort not to laugh]

That is the designated washing machine noise!

[That makes a lot of sense. She nods and lays her head down on the top of it to listen.]

It sounds awful. Does it get worse?

Actually, it sound calm down, in my experience.

Really? Because the mixer in the kitchen sounds like it's going to tear itself apart. That's kind of what this sounds like.

It'll reach equilibrium, just you wait! Appliances tend to be loud at first.

That's good to know? How do I know when it's done then?

These numbers will reach zero, and it will stop making noise.

[so no it doesn't sing but holy heck would that be cool or what]

I don't know. Are you sure the clothes are getting cleaned in here? Don't you need to scrub them by hand?

This handy machine is so you don't have to do that, Anna-san! [She pats it with a grin.] It is, so you see, advanced technology!

That's still amazing. Sometimes I wish I lived in the future since coming here.

I can only imagine, waking up to such a futuristic world... It must be difficult for the lot of you.

Sometimes it is, like all the machines, but some of it is really convenient. Like the showers here! I never knew you could get the water to get so hot.
