WEEK 2
[From the day you arrived on the planet, and blinking, stepped into the sun. There's more to see than can ever be seen, and more to do than can ever be done. Yet, still, the whole thing seems...monotonous. Surely there must be some excitement, some showmanship, some sort of plot twist that could keep this show moving onward?

I don't know. You can't have that much laundry after a week, though, right? So maybe just all the shirts at one time?

It is certainly worth a try.

[With that - oh look, the load for a single sock is done, he'll just take that out and start stuffing his remaining shirts within.]

It worked when I tried it, but I still don't get all the instructions on the tags.

[Hold on, wait, there's instructions on the tags? Raoul takes a couple of the shirts to inspect it.]

Huh...cold wash, air dry...ninety-five percent polyester...what the devil is "polyester"?

It's a type of fabric! It's synthetic and used in all kinds of clothes, and there are a lot of different kinds. It resists staining, too! Fashion is kind of my thing.

[dechagny]

[Raoul feels the fabric between his fingers, and makes a somewhat impressed expression.]

Hm! Not bad. Certainly more comfortable than wool.

These are costumes for the most part, so I think they're a little more fragile and we'd have to be careful to follow the tag. I still don't know what all the symbols mean, though.

Surely if we just wash and hang them out to dry, they will be fine.

[Because what is a dryer]

I guess, or put them in the dryer.

[dechagny]

[...Okay he understands the connotations of the word but]

How exactly does a dryer work?

[rockthistown]

Kind of like the washer. You put a load in and there are settings, I think.

[dechagny]

And I...assume it dries things.

[Fascinating. Raoul takes one of his damper shirts and looks over at the dryers.] Should we test it?

[rockthistown]

I guess so. I haven't really used this either before now, but it worked okay when I tried it.

[He's kind of excited to put the shirt in. Hm, next there are...dryer sheets? Raoul takes one out, feeling it experimentally, sniffing it.]

Oh - is that? [Another sniff.] Lilacs? They have lilac-scented paper for this? What does it do?

I have no idea. Does the box say anything?

[Raoul picks up the box, inspecting it.]

"Fabric softener dryer sheets"...why would fabric need to be made soft? It is already soft.

[But hey this smells really nice, he's going to toss a couple sheets in there.]

I guess so? I don't know how many you need.

A few shouldn't be amiss. They have a wonderful scent, and if that rubs off on the clothes, that should make them much more enjoyable to wear.

I hope this works... Uh, the delicates setting maybe? I don't want to wreck anything.

[dechagny]

Delicate settings...

[He looks - ah, there it is! - and sets the machine correctly. Gold star for you, Raoul!]

And then, there should be...a button or a switch, like the washer...

[He finds the button, presses it, and - whoa! You can hear it hum to life and the clothes tumbling in there!]

Ah! We've done it!

Okay! I knew this couldn't be that hard if people do it so often.

Do they really do it often where you're from, Miss Hime?

People have to wear clean clothes, right?

[dechagny]

Well, yes, of course, but I am aware that many people handwash their clothes as well.

People don't really do that a lot where I come from. Except for the really delicate stuff, but that's mostly... well, you know.
