fourth trial
[When the investigation finishes, the lights begin to flicker on and off as that low, gentle rumble echoes through the opera house. Again for those investigating the grounds the outdoor lights illuminating the still night flicker to get their attention.
Your intermission is ending. Please return to your trial room.
The court room looks just as it did before: the grand chandelier glittering above your heads, the dusty red velvet seats. In the orchestra pit your circle of wooden podiums are waiting. Angus, Riley and Shilo's podiums are draped in black crepe with their greyscale funerary portraits, just like your friends before them. The ghost light glows softly behind the podiums.
The curtain is closed, waiting to open when a decision has been reached and the execution can commence.
When everyone is in their places, the Phantom's voice echoes loud and clear through the theatre from his place in box 5. He still sounds distracted, just as he was for his other public appearance this week, like there are other things weighing on his mind.]
You must now determine who was responsible for the death of Shilo Wallace. Submit your vote on the podiums when you are certain of your choice.
[Gather your evidence and let's begin.]

Then again, he couldn't see Riley, either.]no subject
[Forgive her, she's trying to talk through what she knows.]
They planned this out, planned to attack Shilo from the start. They attacked her in the barn... using that weeder, and a cloth to maybe catch the blood or clean it up. They moved her to another spot to... display her? And then went to clean up.
Then they lit the candles for us. Is that all we know? Or am I getting something wrong?

Might also be misleading us in this trial too...?
[Hey did the motive illness come back? Because she feels sick.]

I don't think this was an accident. If it was- then we wouldn't be here, would we? [He glances at the Phantom] There wouldn't have been a murder if someone else hadn't been involved. Someone at least knows more than they're sharing.

I don't know, with all the hallucinations and stuff, I don't think the possibility of an accident is necessarily out of the question... maybe the killer panicked and is scared to die...
[ ... ]
...Or maybe I'm just hoping for too much.

[He lets out a breath]
Either way, they're betting the rest of our lives.

I just don't want to assume the worst automatically. Not when all of us weren't even in the best frame of mind.
...Again though, maybe I'm just being optimistic.
no subject
...I don't blame anyone for being afraid to die, but I don't want to, either.
no subject
Because they're, they're prepared to kill all of us.

[He still seems a little quiet, maybe distracted.]
Motivations have nothing to do with whether or not a trial occurs. Red did kill Richard.

Do you suppose they intended to bury us all once it was over? Etch our names into the graves if there was no one else to carry on the formality?

Trolley problem. Maybe it isn't about damning seven, but saving more.
[He still looks distinctly uncomfortable with the thought]

We remember new things every week. Perhaps this killer remembered something even more dire. The needs of the many versus the needs of the few.
[You've never even seen Star Trek Mephisto, how tf do you know that line.]
