[Even if that doesn't exist in his world, he knows what that is.]

That's the name of the drink. It's sweet carbonated water.

You're sure it's safe to drink?

Ah, so like a very strong alcohol, then?

[He's going to start using the knife he picked up to carve his cake to try and pry the bottle cap off of the top.

...At least he has the good sense to do it away from both of them.]

Can I interest you in sharing it with me, then?

[mcfife]

No, no, not like-

[Don't do it, Richard! Angus will try to take hold of the cap instead.]

[superbeliever]

[Angus stops him just as he was about to saber the cap off the bottle, and he stays the knife with precision.]

What's the matter?

[mcfife]

You twist this off.

[Gently, the bottle is taken from Richard's hands as Angus turns the cap just a bit, releasing a heavy but brief hiss.]

Slowly. Or everything will spill. [Which was not how people coke a stage.]

[superbeliever]

[Richard watches as Angus twists the bottlecap slightly, startling at the hiss.]

Well, you open that and I'll get us a couple of glasses.

[He reaches in the cabinet and gets down a couple of glasses. He does at least know what those are.]

[mcfife]

[With some time, the cap is off with minimum foaming. He fills each glass halfway, which is not how it is usually done, but Richard needs the reminder to drink it slowly.

He holds his glass up.] To our escape?

[superbeliever]

[Wow, rude, he's not a toddler! He can chug it if he wants to.

...It would probably make his tummy upset tho.

He grins and takes the other glass.]

To our inevitable escape!

[mcfife]

[Angus-

Does not down the drink in one go but rather takes a slow sip, enjoying the fizziness on his tongue.]

[superbeliever]

[Richard takes a sip as well, as if it's tea or wine. When the sugary liquid hits his tongue, his eyebrows shoot up and his eyes go wide.]

Mm-

[He takes another sip.]

This is incredible! It's so fizzy, and sweet!

[mcfife]

That's soda, your majesty!

[It's almost fun to watch him discover modern marvels. More fun that introducing him to the concept of showering.]

It's pretty good. I never tried this kind in my world before. [At least it's better than whatever Mountain Dew is.] And it's good for parties if you don't want anyone to get drunk.

[superbeliever]

I should take some home with me and see if my cook can make it. He's a very clever little man.

[mcfife]

[He screws the cap back on.] I think it’s easy. It’s quite a common drink in my time. Water, sugar, spices...bubbles...

[Easy!]

Just be careful not to drink the Mountain Dew kind, the one Jeremy warns against.

[superbeliever]

Why not? "Mountain Dew" sounds like a rare and majestic flavor.

[mcfife]

It is a drink of evil! It is the source of fuel for a mind control computer, and unless you are absolutely certain The Phantom has not installed on inside you, you must avoid it at all costs.

[superbeliever]

[Richard's eyes widen, and he nearly chokes on the sip that he just took.]

Oh. Well, whatever a "computer" is, that doesn't sound nice at all.

[mcfife]

[Wait, that's not right.]

Computers can be used for good, but if wielded by a cruel person, they have the potential to destroy worlds. Imagine using a spell designed to heal people but twisting it to mind control them. [And what are computers but intricate artifacts? They may as well be magic.] In this case, it can be used to design all sorts of aircraft, or communicate across planets, or bring back a hologram likeness of a Knight from centuries ago who is needed to lead a great battle.

[superbeliever]

But...

This one is not the type that can summon knights.

[He's trying.]

[mcfife]

That is correct.

[There are no computers here to confuse him further.]

Only mind control.

[superbeliever]

And mind control is bad. Got it.

[Funny enough there IS mind control in Galavant, but it's only in the B-plot and happens in a completely different country.]
