It sounds terrifying. I don’t even want to imagine it more than I have to, you know?

...Yeah. Me neither. [ She squeezes her knees together, staring hard at the floor. ] Claudine, do you think someone's really going to...?

[etincelledefierte]

I hope not.

[The thought makes her shiver.]

At least, I want to believe nobody would take that bait.

Me too.

[ At that moment, Riley has to wonder what the hell she's doing. Don't get down. That's how everything starts to spiral out of control, isn't it? ]

They won't. I... I'm sure they won't. It'll all be alright. This guy... He kidnapped us. Who in their right mind would listen to him?

[Claudine is just going to go in for a side hug, because God knows they both need it.]

It will be okay. One way or another, it’s going to be okay. Nobody is going to fall for that bait - why should they? For all we know, it’s a bluff. None of us is going to fall for it.

[ The hug elicits a tiny, surprised gasp, and Riley stiffens for a moment. But...a little comfort right now feels very good, doesn't it? ]

M-mmhm. ...People don't just kill each other so easily. [ This time, it feels a little more secure when she says that. ]

[Just to be on the safe side, Claudine lets go when Riley stiffens.]

No, they don’t.

[A beat, then she sings:]

Even if we still aren't our ideal selves,
We're definitely closer than we were yesterday

[ Claudine has a lovely voice, Riley finds. While she's not in the state to join in, she does kind of...hum, lightly, and murmur under her breath. It doesn't match Claudine's song, but it follows the feelings. ]

Tomorrow, tomorrow, we'll be fine, tomorrow
It's only a day away...

[It takes Claudine a minute to realize where she knows Riley’s song from. Claudine doesn’t know all of the lyrics to it, but she can at least hum a harmony line.]

One day at a time, right? Till we get home safe.

[ It's been an awful day. She's been coping in poor ways that she hasn't in quite awhile. But. Sitting here, maybe, she can be a little hopeful, and not just put on a positive face. ]

Hopefully soon. Hopefully very, very soon.
