It’s been on the rule sheet this entire time, and I am pretty sure our gracious host said as much last week. There is no way that someone should be unaware of it.

Listen here Miss Smarty-pants. I am a King, so obviously I don't need to pay attention to a "rule sheet." And wizards say crazy things all the time! It's part of the act!

We aren’t in a play! Nobody here is acting right now. Have you also failed to notice that we have been locked in this entire time?

Well- no, I noticed that... I just thought it was part of his. Wizard magic.

But my best buddy Gal is going to figure out I'm missing and come save us. Any day now, I'm sure of it. So nobody needs to kill anybody else!

[That last part is called out loud enough for everyone in the room to hear (as if he had been trying to stay quiet before).]

In fact, I, King Richard, forbid it!

We can most certainly agree on that much. I don’t see a reason anyone should kill anyone else.

It's ridiculous! And over making someone "cease to exist." Who would be tempted by- well, I mean I would have been tempted by it, but that was a long time ago.

[Richard it was maybe three or four months ago]

And... sure, she tried to kill me, but I am over the whole revenge thing, believe me.

Your world sounds complicated, to put it mildly. It must be difficult to be a king.

That’s the thing. I don’t actually want anything bad to happen to -

- my rival. If I’m going to beat her, it has to be through my own hard work. I don’t want someone interfering.

You know, I had a rival once. It was my ex-wife's- well, she was my wife at the time, and actually I don't technically know if shacking up with my brother and sending me into exile counts as an annulment - anyway, it was her ex-boyfriend, and you know I was just so sick of hearing her talk about him, I made up this whole plan to trick him into facing me so I could kill him.

Anyway, long story short now we're best friends! So maybe you and your rival can end up the same way too.

[He is taking his Royal Scribe duties marginally seriously, at least.]

You know, that's a good idea. An excellent idea, my boy! I'll make new rules to replace the old ones.

Rule number one: No murdering.
