Cake is the food that no one has to die for

[...She...she isn't sure what to do. She doesn't get sleep that night. She wanders around, sitting in the tea room, walking the library, trying to figure out what to do with herself. What to do for Natalie. For everyone in general.

Is this how the trials worked? Will they have to deal with another next week? Can she...she condemned Natalie's brother. She'd probably never speak to Astarte again.

This is your fault. Death is more preferable to such shame, isn't it?

As 7 am finally came around, and the kitchen opened, Astarte decides to do something. Hime...had wanted to have cake with everyone. A nobody dying cake. She should try to...try and fulfill that promise.

So, she starts working on a cake, using a recipe from the library's various cookbooks. It won't be as good as Hime's, she knows this. But she has to try. It also isn't going to look great, but...it won't be bad for the taste, right?

Once she's finished, there's a...cake in the dining room, along with some other foodstuffs, and a note that says HELP YOURSELF. There's also Astarte, starting to doze off at the other end of the table, then shaking her head to keep herself awake. Feel free to try and help her stay awake, or not, regardless of what you decide to eat or not eat.]

[Anna is starving. After going straight to her room after the trial, she's made herself scarce. But hunger has caught up.

She walks into the kitchen and... what is that monstrosity on the table.]

.... is that supposed to be a cake?

[Look, man, a cake is a cake. And a cake someone worked themselves to the point of sleep over? She's gonna take some. It's only fair.

She's still very quiet, but. It does taste good.]

[Oh, Astarte, you sweet thing.

That cake is...well, it's sure a thing but there's no doubt a whole lot of love in it so it can't taste too terribly. But before she does anything with the cake she approaches Astarte and gently lays a hand on her shoulder.]

Miss Astarte, did you spend all morning baking?

Is this really right? To eat this cake?

[he didn't go to the last party on account of valjean, but, well. here he is.]

[ Well, it's... certainly an attempt at cake. But Hans can imagine what the attempt is for. Hime had baked a cake for his party after all. He'll have a slice-- and hey, at least it tastes pretty good. It's more than he could do, anyway. ]

Is this your first time baking, Astarte?

[What is with you people and cake. Heather lingers in the doorway- looking like she wants to cry.]

[...Well. Raoul should probably have some of that for breakfast, seeing as someone clearly worked very hard on making that cake, even if it looks...frightening. And you know, they have been through a complete ordeal in the past couple of days. Cake of any kind would be comforting.

Oh - Astarte's nodding off nearby. Did she make it? She possibly made it. Now Raoul can't pass it up. He cuts two slices, puts one in front of Astarte, and gently shakes her shoulder.]

Miss Astarte - come now, we can't have you getting penalized after going through the trouble to bake for us.
