Week Six

[Last week, in It's Curtains, the weather changed, and with it your fortune in Dads. Discord took Salieri out - or perhaps Salieri took Discord out - and left the survivors with that much less impulse control. Nonetheless, a visit from a new friend might have provided a little bit of much-needed hope?

On Sunday morning, you'll find that the other side of the second floor has opened up - as well as the actual intended path to reach the roof garden. You can finally stop climbing up that rope every time you want to have a picnic or secret lover's rendezvous!

Outside, the weather seems to have calmed down. It's sunny again, with rather a lot of clouds. Though it's warm, the atmosphere seems very...still.]

[Elle shakes her head.]

[Elle ducks back into the room, coming back a minute later with a couple of pillows.]

[Maya laughs, faintly.]

I managed to tell Claudine she was cute when she cried.

Of course. I... understand that.

[She shifts a little closer, to lay her hand on Elle's shoulder.]

Do you want to talk about it?

[He squeezes his eyes, remembering that photo Elle received the second week here. That gross old man - Callahan - that's what it was a photo of.

They were all futures that they had already experienced.]

He deserved that slap. He doesn't deserve you if he treats you like that. [The Wizard knew that she was destined to have her heart broken.]

[ Eurydice hears footsteps, and turns to see who's there. When she sees Farrah, she offers the younger girl a sad little smile.

...And then Farrah starts wiping stuff?? All over the bench?? That's. Hm.

...Well, it's probably what Discord would have wanted. Her smile softens a little. ]

Mmm. Wish I didn't have to. I'm glad you brought something for Discord. He...didn't deserve that.

[ Still, hers are limp. ]

[ The lack of energy in her— it's like when Connor died, but worse.

[ the countdown to janis seeing claudine and going "oh there's two of them im in danger" continues apace ]

[ Vibrations through the earth are something she should look into. That's something she should be alert for. And yet, she's not. She's utterly disconnected. She just stares out into the woods, as if by staring she'll manifest something—

[Maya doesn't like any of this. She drops Peregrine's hand, in favor of wrapping an arm around her waist. She wraps herself around the woman, trying to give her some kind of warmth, some kind of assurance.]

What did you remember?

Uh. [ That's...a great question, it seems. ] I... I don't really... I just started walking.

He did, but...I still can't go back. Even if I did, he'd probably just get me thrown out anyways. It's not like anyone there besides Emmett even likes me.

[He doesn't flinch, but goes still when she puts her hand on his back.]

I don't deserve it.

[She's suppose to be the peppy one, the one raising everyone's spirits, not the one bringing them down.]

... Spinel, right? The one Nana talked about.

[ Orpheus throws the spare jacket and shirt over the locker room's bench to dry and leans against the lockers, brows furrowed. ]

But, she said you were cursed, didn't she? It wasn't - you.

[It's so sticky and gross! She's working on trying to get it all off the palm of her hands currently.]

... Yeah. I thought he'd-- like this stuff. [Her brow furrows, and she plucks a gooey pompom from the slime, then pats it back in.]

He didn't. He really loved-- I think he really loved--

Dad really messed up. He betrayed us all. But... probably Discord, more than anyone else.

[Oh... Maya has a point. Elsa does want to impress Cass - or at least show her she's not completely useless and not worth the time to train. Cass... would probably prefer someone who could keep up with her...]

I... suppose that couldn't hurt. At the very least, it might be wise for me to know how to hold a sword...

[........... WAIT HOLD ON-]

I-I'm not trying to impress her, or anything of the sort! I just... thought something like this would be useful.

[mayavericks]

[Claudine Saijo identifies as a threat and nothing else.]

It was... rather dramatic. Of me and her. I outdid myself.

[ Those footsteps aren't the right cadence. They aren't the ones she wishes she heard, so she doesn't care about them—so her loose logic goes.

Those footsteps returning is the biggest surprise so far. ]

Why are you...?

[fourbutts]

[ Janis chuckles. ]

You, babe? Dramatic? Say it ain't so.

[comeandfindme]

[ Peregrine doesn't pull away. She doesn't do much of anything. For a moment, she doesn't respond, either. But, then, she very quietly answers: ]

How many.

[ How many people she's lost to the woods. ]

[Elsa's shoulders sag a little in relief. She honestly wasn't sure how Cass would react to the request; would she be annoyed? Would she think it's pointless? But... no. She seems almost excited. Impressed?

Good... that's good. That fluttering in Elsa's chest at the way Cass smiles... that's probably nothing, right?]

Yeah, of course it's okay. Maybe... should we go to the gym for this?

[mayavericks]

Benjamin. Whatever you think you are, whatever this monster of a Wizard has shown you, I don't believe that to be you.

[She strokes her fingers through his hair, then down the span of his neck. She keeps her fingers working against his shoulders.]

A monster would not have held any one of us as we cried. As we mourned. He would not have helped us honor our dead.

[barberic]

[His voice is raw and honest, shaky and sad. She needs so much better than him. She deserves so much better than this place.

But they're here. And despite everything, they're still alive.

He lets go of her hand and moves Milky White to the bed, so he can pull one leg up onto the bed to face her better, pulling her into his arms like a child, like he'd held her during the trial, then takes her hand in his again, and his voice takes an almost lullaby quality to it, though still in agony, as he follows her melody.]

Promise that you won't forget me,
Not who I am but who you thought I was

[His thumb rubs back and forth over the back of her hand, and tears fall from his eyes.]

Promise to always remember
Life is a gift you can't let go...

[She has a horrible feeling but... she doesn't want to assume. Maybe she doesn't want to believe. She keeps squeezing Peregrine all the tighter.]
