[Last week, Gershwin High School Academy University saw its very first intentional murder! What a milestone! And right after Spongebob's No Murder party, too - that doesn't seem like it bodes very well for anybody's future.

You all wake up this morning with yet another new memory returned to you. You'll also find that the school's external doors have now unlocked. Congratulations! You're free! Unfortunately, you also seem to be entirely in the middle of nowhere. So maybe it's more of a symbolic victory.

Still, you should look around and do some investigation! Maybe you'll find a fun surprise.]

But... yes, actually, I believe I've got something of yours. [He snaps his fingers and the photo he got appears in the air, gently floating Peregrine's away.] I figured you would want that and not have it sitting in a pile with the rest of the junk I got.

Of mine? [ Oh. She sees the photo floating towards her and, a little hesitantly, she grabs it. The curious expression fades to something somber, though, once she sees the subject. ] Oh. Oh, uh... Yeah, this is mine all right.

[Not that he knows a lot here, but it's Peregrine so probably there's a lot of emotional baggage involved.]

[ Emotional baggage, it’s like her brand or something. ]

Just what we didn't know was...

[ Peregrine looks up from the photo. ] My friends were all putting themselves in danger 'cause of me. We were— I was...really stupid. Seeing how happy we all looked makes me realize just how stupid. Hindsight.

Yes, hindsight does tend to make things more blindingly obvious, but that is what it's for. You don't really get to see all the what ifs in the moment.

You're just about the last person I'd expect to be any sort of stupid, though, but it might just be everyone else here messing up the metric.

[ She snorts, almost laughing. ]

I think I've given all of you a sort of incorrect impression, but. Thanks.

We're all such a mess that you look better by default, I'd just take the win.

That or you're simply better than you think you are, I suppose. Either or.

They said it was a...side-effect, not remembering everything, but... Do you really think that's true? Like...it's like we're becoming entirely different people than we were before. Than we thought we were.

Personally, I really don't want to give anything about this place that much credit for who I am right now. But, it's hard to say. I can't say I'd considered the matter yet.

[ She winces. ]

A...little. I don't know, I don't give this place any credit, but— like, you can't say...it wouldn't've been different if you showed up here with the memories you have now.

If I'd arrived with all the memories I should have, I imagine I would've been far easier to deal with those first two weeks. Really, it's probably a good thing I didn't have my full magic then.

[Now that's different, of course, and he'd very much like to just magic everyone out of here, but. Welp.]

[ Peregrine turns the photo of her and her friends over in her hands. ]

Well… I wouldn’t have tried to push people away those first two weeks. Wouldn’t’ve been so convinced to go it alone.

[ The Balladeer kept gently needling her to reach out. She wishes she had sooner. ]

I think better? I don’t know. …I don’t…know how it ends yet.
