[Last week, Gershwin High School Academy University saw its very first intentional murder! What a milestone! And right after Spongebob's No Murder party, too - that doesn't seem like it bodes very well for anybody's future.

You all wake up this morning with yet another new memory returned to you. You'll also find that the school's external doors have now unlocked. Congratulations! You're free! Unfortunately, you also seem to be entirely in the middle of nowhere. So maybe it's more of a symbolic victory.

Still, you should look around and do some investigation! Maybe you'll find a fun surprise.]

[Farrah laughs again, gently swatting at his shoulder.]

You’re awful! I can’t believe I thought you were a stuffy old man, look at this shit! I’m a terrible influence. [She sounds every bit delighted by it, though. She’s been called it before, and it always felt either miserable or like complete bullshit— but in this, she can delight.]

[the swat makes him chuckle, smirking]

My dear, I've spent my days in Court. If I could paint "petty" as a place, that would be it. [drawled...and then after a moment, adds: "Lord Reinhardt is hit in the head with a mannequin for crimes against fashion."]

[Farrah snickers at his addition.]

Sounds like high school. Or maybe facebook. Either way. I didn’t expect you to be so—-

So? [Salieri arches an eyebrow, amused, encouraging her to finish that sentence]

Sooooo… [She draws it out, trying to pick the right word.] … Bitchy? But in a good way.

[that startles a huff of laughter out of him]

Thank you. I've never been called that before. [...] At least, not to my face. But I'll take the compliment.

It is a compliment. I love it. [It makes her swell with pride— he’s not just funny, but any time she sees a flicker of his slightly improper side, it fills her with hope. He’s brilliantly imperfect. And he’s doing okay. It makes her think that she’ll be okay someday too. That… she might get a chance to grow up just like she should.]

[Salieri's expression softens at that, and he's reaching out to set a hand on her knee]

I love that about you, also.

So-- I can keep it? [She gestures to the empty death note.]

I'll leave the guns in exchange.

Yes, I suppose so. Though only if you let me look at your additions later. [he smirks] And perhaps occasionally let me add some of my own.

Okay. It’s a deal. Though, fair warning, I could fill both books with Chess and Riley death threats.

[that makes him chuckle] I would expect nothing else.

[he pauses, for a moment, considering]

...additionally, I'd like to talk to you about the meeting.

[Oh. Shit.

We have a few options here.

1) Stop, drop everything, run.
2) Pretend we don’t know what’s going on.
3) Talk to him like a grownup.]

Oh, yeah? What about it? [Tossing her braids back casually. Yeah, okay. Option 2.]

[uh huh]

You said you checked on whether a suicide would count.

[brokeforgood]

… Yeah. I asked H. [She sounds guilty, but only a little.]

I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I could undo the fall. Or maybe just undo my reaction to it. Or maybe I could make it so Annleigh’s dad caught his cancer sooner, and she never even met me, and I never went to that school—— I’ve already died once. So, I asked H. And she said it would count. But that… everyone would still need to vote.

So it was a no go. It’s not worth it, if it means all of you would have had to die too.

[he's going to just...gently reach out to set a hand on her knee]

I...may not be pleased with your reasoning but I suppose I can understand it, given circumstances.

That being said...I would much rather have you here. No matter how difficult the situation is.

It’s a good reason. It’s better than me trying to kill someone—- right? [She glances at him, her voice suddenly smaller.] Like… if someone has to die—-

...no, in fact, I think...it makes it worse. I don't particularly want to weigh lives against each other, because I don't like the idea that anyone's life here is worth more or less than the others but...

[he shifts, turning to look at her fully]

...you might've already died, but you're alive now, Farrah. Just because you might not be alive any more in your own dimension does not mean that your life is worth any less than the others here.

[brokeforgood]

[When he looks at her, she’s fully sulking. She expected him to understand more, and isn’t pleased with the disagreement.]

Are you sure? Cuz… It feels like it’s worse for someone not already dead to die.

...I can imagine it does. But also...I must admit that I have a bias when it comes to you. I would be very, very upset if anything were to ever happen to you, Farrah.

[brokeforgood]

[She continues to pout, for…. a few seconds as she processes what he says, then she sits up.]

Yeah? Well. I only asked. I didn’t actually do anything. You don’t have to worry.

I wouldn’t trade everyone here, just to fix things at home. I wouldn’t give up my new family for anything.

[Salieri's expression softens at that, and there's relief there, too]

I wouldn't, either.

This family is far more important to me than anything back home.

[Farrah bumps against his shoulder with hers, roughly.]

My life back there's already over. I might as well move forward with this one.

Someone has to keep an eye on you, anyway.
