[Last week, Gershwin High School Academy University saw its very first intentional murder! What a milestone! And right after Spongebob's No Murder party, too - that doesn't seem like it bodes very well for anybody's future.

You all wake up this morning with yet another new memory returned to you. You'll also find that the school's external doors have now unlocked. Congratulations! You're free! Unfortunately, you also seem to be entirely in the middle of nowhere. So maybe it's more of a symbolic victory.

Still, you should look around and do some investigation! Maybe you'll find a fun surprise.]

Garden time

[ After Varian's had some time to investigate, he might hear Rina coming up the path, a prop picnic basket in both of her hands. When she gets to the garden and sees him already there though she stops in her tracks. ]

Ah--

[ ...... ]

You're already there...

[ shit she meant to get here earlier to set up. ]

[Varian jumps, because even though Rina is so quiet somehow she still managed to surprise him...but he's quick to correct himself, standing up straight with a sheepish smile.]

Rina-chan! Sorry, did...was I supposed to not be?

[He leans over just slightly, more so that he's looking directly at her instead of down. She's quite a bit shorter than him, after all.]

I thought I'd take a better look around outside this morning...since I didn't really do a whole lot of that until late yesterday.

[ She hangs her head, a little embarrassed. ]

No, it's okay. I was just hoping to get here first and set up a little...

It's really nice here though, right?

[ Rina there are benches with all the dead people's names on them.

....whatever let her have this i guess ]

[It's okay Varian's trying to pretend they're not there.]

It is really nice. Have you seen how many flowers there are?

[ She nods. ]

Mmhm. That’s what I like most here. They’re so pretty… and it makes me think of my hair clip.

[ You know. The one you gave her.

Which she is wearing right now. And has barely stopped wearing since getting it. ]

Varian smiles a little at that, offering Rina his hand.]

By the way, you said you were going to "set up"...is that the surprise you were talking about?

[ Oh… hand… she shifts the basket into just one hand and takes his with the now free one before nodding. ]

M-Mmhm… I…

[ Man she wish she had worn the board out here, it would help her talk easier, knowing she actually had an accurate expression for him to look at. ]

I actually… put together a picnic.

[Oh. Aw...so that's why she was asking him about sandwiches...

He'll start to walk towards the tree at the end of the garden, moving slowly in case Rina decides she wants to set up somewhere else, like closer to the flowerbeds.]

Aw...that's a great idea. I can't remember the last time I went on a picnic.

[And even though Ruddiger isn't with him at this very moment, don't worry- he'll be joining from the forest as soon as he smells their food.]

[ The tree was exactly where she was hoping to go, right under it. It reminds her of Hanami picnics kind of, even though there’s no sakura here. ]

I’m glad. I wanted to do something nice to try and cheer you up - I know you had a rough day yesterday. Plus, girls back home make lunches for the people they like all the time so um…

[ She wanted to make… bento…… ]

Well, you might not have been able to set it up before I got here, but I can help you now that I am here.

[Who says he can't set up his own surprise?]

[ When they get to the tree she bends down to set the basket on the ground. ]

I brought some fabric from the costume shop to use as a blanket to sit on. Could you help me spread it out?

You got it!

[He'll get started on doing just that, taking one end of the fabric while she takes the other. There's plenty of room underneath the tree to sit for both of them.]

Having a picnic was a nice idea...especially now that we can go outside.

[ Taking the other end and spreading it out. It’s a nice simple bolt of cloth, a soft pink in colour. She’s doubled it up to make up for how thin it is compared to a blanket and it’s soft so it should be fine! ]

Mm, that’s what I was thinking too. It’d be a waste to not take advantage of it now that we can. Especially after being cooped up inside for so long.

[ Once it’s spread out she slips her shoes off and move to sit on it with the basket. ]

Or after being in an auto shop all day.

[ She’s. Trying to be playful. ]

[Well congrats Rina, your attempt worked. Varian smiles, looking a little sheepish when she points that out.]

Hey, what can I say? somebody had to get that car running.

[Even though NOBODY'S DRIVING IT...

He sits down across from her though, carefully crossing his legs beneath himself.]

So- what did you end up making after all?

[ Well first things first she is getting the paper board out of the picnic basket so she can use it again. Immediately she feels less shy and can speak more easily again. ]

Well… a couple of things. I made a few different kinds of sandwiches, but then I also tried to make some stuff from back home.

Um… I’m not too confident in my cooking yet though and some of it you might not have even heard of before… so I won’t be offended if you don’t like it. I brought veggies and fruit just in case…

[ And also some cookies or something she attempted but that’s surprise for later. When I’m less indecisive.

Either way she starts pulling some of the food out. There are indeed a few types of sandwiches (tuna, lettuce and tomato, and cucumber with cream cheese), a small container of cat shaped onigiri with faces on them and tamagoyaki cut and arranged into heart shapes, and a bunch of sliced fruits and veggies. Some of them have been cut in cute shapes like apple bunnies and cherry tomato hearts.

…she also definitely grabbed some drinks from the vending machine because she knows she accidentally gave you a soda addiction. ]

[Now Varian...most people probably don't know, because he hasn't been doing a whole lot of cooking himself here with so many others taking up that helm, but he can cook. He's almost perfected the art of baking in particular because of it, comparing it to alchemy with different steps. But even so, it moreso means he can follow recipes very well...he's not the most spontaneous cook otherwise? He's not going to judge Rina for her cooking even remotely. Actually, he's more surprised by the quantity of things...it's clear she's put a lot of effort into what she made too, from the little onigiri to the shapes in the eggs and fruits/vegetables. Even the sandwiches are pretty...

...and of course a very fat raccoon can hear the rustle of food packaging a mile away and oh lord he's comin]

Woah...you made all of this? By yourself?

[ Oh Ruddiger. Hun. Baby. Garbage Apple of my eye.

She has an entire separate little container of fruit and veggies just for you pal. (Excluding any that she thought could make him sick like tomatoes)

Hearing him coming she takes it and just. Gently sets that aside for him, there you go you little fatty eat your heart out. ]

M-Mmhm… mostly. I had some help at times but…

L-Like I said I… wanted to do something nice to cheer you up…

[Ruddiger is very pleased with Rina's offering, and since he's got people hands he's going to pick up the entire container and take it up the garden tree with him. As if they'd be trying to eat his snacks while Rina already made so much, but anyway-

Varian looks at the little sides that Rina put together with fond fascination, because while it's all very simple...there's heart put in it. And when he picks up one of the apple rabbits, his eyes actually crease with a smile that he hasn't been seen with since before Sunday. Not even at the sleepover.]

No one's...ever done anything like this for me before.

I love it, Rina-chan. Thank you.

[ She was peering over the board, watching for his reaction… and when she sees the look in his eyes hers light up as well. ]

You’re welcome! I’m just glad you like it! Rina-chan Board says… “all smiles!”

I wish I could have made you an actual bento though— ah, that’s a kind of boxed lunch from back home. A lot of girls make them for um—-

P-People they like… so I uh…

B-But this is close enough for now!

Varian puts the apple back for now, mostly because he actually wants to try one of those onigiri first. It's almost too cute to eat...]

What are these?

[He knows what rice is obviously, but being a farm boy who tends to eat meals made almost entirely from the kind of produce they work with, he's never actually had a chance to eat many dishes with it before.]

Ah— they’re onigiri. Though I think some westerners call them rice balls?

[ or jelly donuts— ]

They’re… well, balls of sticky rice, usually with something in the middle. I put tuna in these ones since I was already using some… They're actually a lot like sandwiches in that they're really simple and meant to be eaten with your hands.

[ Theres also uh. One that was made with spicy tuna because she felt like being a shit. ]

Oni...giri.

[Oh, god, he pronounces it so stupidly probably. It's up to Rina as to whether or not she finds that annoying or endearing though as he takes a bite. It's mostly rice to start since the tuna is more in the middle, but it's tasty enough on its own, he's realizing. Like eating bread...but obviously much different.]

Oh hey- that's really good!
