[Last week, Gershwin High School Academy University saw its very first intentional murder! What a milestone! And right after Spongebob's No Murder party, too - that doesn't seem like it bodes very well for anybody's future.

You all wake up this morning with yet another new memory returned to you. You'll also find that the school's external doors have now unlocked. Congratulations! You're free! Unfortunately, you also seem to be entirely in the middle of nowhere. So maybe it's more of a symbolic victory.

[ Points to Maya. ]

She's just still sleeping. I'm trapped.

[Varian inclines his head in a sort of "aaah, right" kind of nod. You know the one.]

Yeah, I'm...kindof in the same boat.

[They're not, like. Tangled? But when Varian shifts to the side a little, Janis will be able to see Rina's shock of pink hair from where she's sleeping clinging to that Sonic plushie.]

[ Cranes her neck to see. ]

Aww, good for you guys. [ A beat. ] Are you two...?

[Varian nods, propping his head up on his hand.]

Yeah. ....

[ Looks at Maya, then smiles in a really grossly fond way. ]

Yeah, we are.

I mean... yeah. I don't even like boys. Some people like different, some people like the same, some people like both... some people aren't into anyone like that. Just sorta depends.

I guess I never really thought about it that way...I'm glad Maya found somebody...she seems like she was due to have somebody watch over her for a change.

I don't know how good I'll be at it, but... she makes me want to try, you know? Even if I am, like, way normal compared to a lot of people here.

[ A slight groan as she reflects on her words. ]

God I've got it bad, Varian.

[AW JANIS...Varian smiles a little wider, even if she might not be able to easily see it from where he is in the dark.]

Normal isn't a bad thing. I think half of us could use more normal.

And the fact you care so much means you're already good at it.

He's a nice guy who runs fast and eats chili dogs and hangs out with lots of cool furry friends, and that's enough to make certain groups of people go absolutely feral.

...I'm not sure why it surprises me so much that that's something Rina-chan likes...

[But...Rina can be a mystery sometimes. She's cute, but she has secrets.]

She... probably likes him a more healthy amount than some of the Sonic the Hedgehog fans I've seen.

He's a cool dude, though, I respect him. And the video games are supposed to be... okay, I've never played any, and everyone seems to think that every game is both great and terrible and I cannot sort it out.

[ At being talked about, Rina tosses in her sleep, rolling over and accidentally whapping Varian lightly with one of Sonic's plush arms. She mumbles something in her sleep: ]

Sonic is real, and strong, and he's my friend....

[Varian jumps, blinking when the plush arm whaps him. It's like Sonic himself is telling him to shut the fuck up and stop disrespecting him.

...wait no, that's just Rina talking in her sleep.]

...that actually explains a lot, now that you say he's from a video game. She loves those.
