[Last week, Gershwin High School Academy University saw its very first intentional murder! What a milestone! And right after Spongebob's No Murder party, too - that doesn't seem like it bodes very well for anybody's future.

You all wake up this morning with yet another new memory returned to you. You'll also find that the school's external doors have now unlocked. Congratulations! You're free! Unfortunately, you also seem to be entirely in the middle of nowhere. So maybe it's more of a symbolic victory.

Still, you should look around and do some investigation! Maybe you'll find a fun surprise.]

INVESTIGATION

[ As promised, bright and early Peregrine, Spongebob, and Eurydice prep to go on a deep woods exploration, to see just how far they go. Emergency supplies in some of the backpacks they didn’t need to sew, they’re all ready!

Peregrine herself is. Nervous? Definitely nervous. But let’s give this a try. ]

[Spongebob, at least at the moment, is the opposite of nervous! He’s humming a little song to himself as they go hiking. To him, this is a fun adventure and a way to possibly finally escape! Even if it’s scary, he’s with some strong friends so he has no real reason to be scared.

Right?]

Hopefully we don’t get too lost out here. I made some trail mix but I’m not sure how long it’ll last.

The goal is we don't get lost at all. [ Serious! Be serious!! Peregrine tries to swallow down her nerves. ] The key to traveling through the woods with no paths is dead reckoning— you have to keep a look out for landmarks, things that stand out so you can find your way back.

[ She frowns very lightly. ]

But...the trees here are all kind of...similar. [ She takes out one of her sharp knives, the ones used for deer skinning, and then carves her initials into one of the trees. ] So we're gonna have to make due. I'll do this every ten feet and we can use it to find our way back.

[ thank the gods peregrine knows what she's doing, because eurydice is honestly pretty worried about spongebob. ]

Weather's good today, at least. Not too much wind. But make sure to keep track of your stuff, okay? [ this is mostly directed at spongebob, sorry dude ]

I promise, Eurydice! Luckily there's not much I gotta keep track of. Besides you guys, of course!

[He laughs lightheartedly.]

Peregrine leads them forward as she experiences like two years worth of delayed anxiety. ]

Good. Then you just keep track of us closely.

[Into the woods we have to go -

You can walk for a while! As you get deeper into the woods, several hours out, you can start to see things like deer, all fake. Sorry, Pere! You wanna look at anything around here, or keep going?]

[ Of course she's going to look around, what do you take her for!! They're all just posed like it's a tableau or something? How sturdy do the fake deer look? ]

[Yeah, it's a neat little forest scene! The deer are decently sturdy, but they might not stand up if there was a serious storm out here or something. Luckily, it hasn't so much as rained since you've been able to get outside!]

[ That's...weird!! That's really weird, actually! Does the weather seem to change at all? Clouds over the sun, anything? ]

[There's some light fluffy clouds from time to time! But never anything terribly significant - the weather's pretty nice!]

[ Okay. Okay, well, she's gonna keep an eye on that. Probably...gonna move forward, once everyone else is ready to. ]

[Spongebob's certainly ready to go! Surely nothing bad will happen, right?]

[Great! As you go on, you eventually encounter a bear!

It's also fake.]

[Spongebob screams and hides behind Per.]

[ Peregrine goes into full fighting-a-bear mode, isn't it funny that she's already done that, and— ]

...It's not real, Spongebob! [ She goes up to examine it. ] Oh, it is so not real.

[Spongebob is practically piggybacking on Peregrine (it's fine he weighs nothing), and nervously laughs when she points out that it's fake.]

Oh, I knew that! J-just another statue.

[He's not getting off quite yet.]

Yeah, it's— [ ........ ] How...do you not weigh more than...

[ You know what! She's not gonna examine it!! ]

More than what?

[He smiles innocently, before looking back at the bear.]

Kinda creepy that they just have one of these things out in the middle of nowhere. Did the Wizard expect us to walk this far out here?

[Not the most comforting thought!]

[ She lightly scowls. ]

If he knew anything about me? Possibly. [ She's looking over the bear, same construction as the deer? ]

[Does the forest get thicker the deeper they go in? Or is it just a weirdly even thickness.]

[It does get thicker, to a point! But after that point, it's pretty even.]

[Well that seems pretty reasonable! And at least more comforting than it getting so thick that it gets super spooky.

He's... assuming that there still aren't any animal noises so far, right?]
