He tucks another piece of paper into the pages, like he's bookmarking his favorite section, and slides it back under her door.]

From what I can tell, yes. Roles within roles. He claims he can help us if we bite our tongues.

I don’t see what he gets out of helping us that he wouldn’t get from the Wizard, if the Wizard is as powerful as everyone says. If the Phantom wants me to trust him, then he’s got to earn it.

I’ll keep quiet not for the Phantom’s sake, but just to make sure we don’t all die.

[The next time Mephisto's out and about, he hands the book off to her without a backward glance.]

I'm inclined to agree.

I tried to entice him into giving me a display. He said whatever he could do, it had to be done in his chambers. There's something not quite right about this situation.

But I will at least accept his advice regarding the Wizard. That I can believe, given everything else.
