[Well, all escape attempts have failed thus far. None of you have seen the Phantom since his brief appearance on Sunday, or heard from him at all. It looks like, for the time being, you’re all going to be stuck here.

You're free to continue exploring your surroundings to your hearts' content. The only real restriction on your movements is that the kitchen is closed between the hours of 10 pm and 7 am. Better make sure to grab any midnight snacks you may want ahead of time. Also, remember to label any investigation toplevels!

The Merchandise Booth is now open for business as well! The Phantom hasn't deigned to explain how it works, but...well, some of you will start to find mysterious coins in your rooms, and the Booth's got a place to put coins. You'll figure it out.

Should you wish to engage more with your host, you're welcome to drop letters in the box office slot. There's no set way to converse verbally with him, and he's certainly not guaranteed to respond if you just yell at the walls - but that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't listening. Just something to keep in mind.

Well, I'd imagine so. [He can't say anything for the taste, but the smell is divine.]

Oh! Yes, I am. They’re all pretty up to date with what I’m used to back home.

[ She pauses for a moment. She’s already met a prince from another dimension, there’s a humanized gem stone walking around, and the Phantom of the Opera is here, inside their mind - none of that even touches the shit she’s gotten up to back home. Suddenly his question seems a lot less weird to her. ]

Do you not have them where you’re from?

[He'd thought himself a man of science, but machines that sprayed water and cooked baked goods without an open flame were beyond him.]

I am afraid not. Large, stone ovens with a constantly maintained flame, perhaps, but nothing so advanced as this.

I am... not sure where to even begin.

Nana listens to him and then smiles. ]

Would you like me to show you how to use some of them? I was just about to start another batch of muffins once these were done anyway.

Would you? [Ever the eager scholar, Ariel perks up at the mention.]

Of course! I don't mind teaching.

I can teach you the recipe as well if you'd like or we can skip right to the oven.

[ As she's saying this she finishes off the sandwiches and puts them aside, ready to get a new batch started. ]

I imagine understanding all of the pieces -- how one thing should be prepared to be cooked just so -- would be valuable knowledge.

[He peers over at the ingredients. He'd never been much for baking, but... always more to learn.]

Okay then!

So this recipe you need flour, sugar, mashed bananas, an egg, baking soda, salt, vanilla extract and vegetable oil. I also put a little bit of cinnamon in mine to make them even better, and sometimes oats or sliced almonds to put on top.

[ All the ingredients are already out from her last batch thankfully... well except another egg but that's easy to grab. She grabs a measuring cup to hold up. ]

You measure them all with these. You have to make sure to use the exact right amount with baking or else it can throw everything off.

[At least this is all relatively familiar to Ariel. He might not have an electric stove in his land, but he's watched the process of baking bread at least once.]

I am excellent at measuring things, if I may say so. [He holds his hands out for a measuring cup.] In my profession -- Alchemy -- It was crucial to measure things to be just so.

[ She hands it over to him! ]

Alchemy? Really? I hear a lot about alchemy in stories but I have to say this is my first time getting to meet an alchemist.

[ Because no one studies it anymore, which she knows, but still. ]

I believe Stephen referred to me as a chemist. Perhaps that is a more accurate term? In any case it isn't a particularly uncommon art where I am from, though few use it as readily as I do.

[Don't mind him just... gloating a little.]

Ohhh, I see. Chemistry does sound similar, yeah.

In that case, you'll probably be really good at baking once you learn how to use the appliances! They say baking is just like science!

Is that so? [He supposes that he can see the resemblance, even if he would never draw the comparison himself.]

Perhaps I'll change my profession, then. Become a baker and search for the ultimate recipe, rather than anything else.
