Week 7

[Last week, on It's Curtains...boy, that sure was a year-long week, huh?

But despite it all, you've gotten through it with less death than there might have been. Spongebob and Farrah both survived their ill-conceived plan; Maya, with the intervention of Janis and Hester, survived her triple murder. Since the failed execution, there has been no sign of the Wizard or of Hester. It seems like you may have gotten away with that cleanly!

When you wake up on Sunday, you remember everything. All the gaps, the missing pieces, entire chunks of time from back home - they're back and neatly fitted where they should be in your heads. Elle, Orpheus, and Eurydice have also been given graves alongside the others in the garden. These ones were filled in for you; after all, you were all pretty occupied over the weekend.

Other than that...it seems like some unusual posters have been put up around the school. Sounds like something's going to happen this week. You'd better prepare.]

[He gesture to his broken arm. The one Peregrine patched up despite being angry with him.

It... genuinely seems to have meant a lot to him.]

[His eyes absolutely light up in excitement.]

That's a great plan, Angus! What better way to show that we're a team than with a badge of honor! And I think flowers make the best badges out there!

... We can still save her. I know we can. If she's alive, we just gotta find her, and if she died...

[He pauses.]

Well she's gotta be with all our friends in that case, right?

Of course! I got you, and Janis, and Farrah, and everyone else! I know together we can make the Wizard pay for everything he did to us.

[He pauses, than laughs a little.]

I never thought I'd say that about someone who lost their family, but it isn't fair that he gets to flaunt that while he put mine at risk multiple times!

[Both families.]

He's taking away her memories. Hester is being used.

[But he sure doesn't like all this mystery.] Who could have put this here?

[There are no plants! Which is not to say that they simply aren't visible from that angle - from what you remember of the roof, you ought to be able to see at least the edges of some of the planters. But they aren't there.]

[ Anything else absent from the roof at this angle? Benches?

And you know— can she see any of the stars? ]

[Angus grabs Peregrine by the arm and pulls her as far as possible from the trajectory of the trombones, which is easier said than done when they keep coming and they don't stop coming]

It's probably - ow! - some kind of trap - ow! - when things look too peaceful!

Well... [Holding Elsa up like this, almost seated in her arms, the other woman felt almost weightless. But she could have been Cassandra's world at this point. Cass briefly shuts her eyes as their foreheads meet, just to enjoy the moment. She didn't want it to end. This happiness.]

Good. Because I want you to stay.

[Cassandra's eyes open. They almost seem to shimmer. There's a pounding in her chest, in her ears. A heartbeat emboldening her.

Tilting her head back, Cassandra shifts their embrace just enough that she can press her lips to Elsa's.]

[No benches! It's hard to say about the stars - at this angle, there wouldn't be a lot of stars visible anyway.]

[ What about in any other pictures she'd taken on the roof? Not just ones that had this specific specter. Presumably the rest of them look normal? ]

[There are no shadowy figures in any of the other pictures! But a few of them do seem to be nighttime shots, and in some of those, you can recognize the stars. Laid out in the normal patterns you'd expect - you probably know a little star mapping, right?]

[ Yes. Yes she does. That is definitely something you learn in survivalist training from Peter Howland.

Where are we? ]

[ Peregrine snorts softly. ]

Well, in that case, be my guest.

[ ... ]

At least what you're hope burning. Mine's all spite.

[ She snorts. ]

[It's hard to say exactly - these are constellations you'd be familiar with in your own night sky, but you wouldn't normally see them at this time of year. More around fall or winter.]

...Defeated. Just - I've sparred with him, in the past. I'm pretty good at it.

[God... She recoils at the mere thought.]

Not- I love my dad.

[That gets a hum of a chuckle from him.]

Since we're here, I'm open to requests.

[Okay good, Cassandra has a nice family waiting for her.]

Then with the two of us [And Maya] we can kill him.

Your father must have taught you a lot for you to be able to win in a sparring match.

Why not have both?

[How in the name of Hoots would he and Elle work out if she's a lawyer and he is a prince? There was going to be some compromise at some point or another.]

[ Peregrine's smile tightens. She unfolds a letter, and starts reading. ]

"Dear Connor Murphy,

It sounds like you really care about her. I just know she would love to hear all these things herself. The gulf must seem wide between you, but I know if you keep at it you can one day reach her.

Tell her everything you told me. About the indigo streaks and how she dances. About the stars she scribbles when she's bored. Tell her that you noticed all these things. It won't fix everything, but it's a start, right?

I hope you and Zoe can really connect soon. If you need me, you know you have me in your corner. Family's important.

[ Peregrine looks up. Throughout the reading, her voice has dropped about...ten degrees, in terms of iciness. She looks bitter, angry, and positively enraged. ]

Something will happen tomorrow. Whether it is for good or for bad, our destiny awaits. [He rips out several flowers in his path.] Regardless of what happens, it's our chance to defeat the Wizard.

[Added some wildflowers for Peregrine, and-] Do you prefer any particular flower for yours, Mr. Barker?

Holy shit. That's that fucking Evan guy at it again, right?

[ Okay. We don't have a location... But there's some kind of timeline. Either of what they look like right now, or...of when this took place. That's at least a little more information than she had before.

Is there anything else weird about the shadowy figure, or just...anything she'd notice in general? ]
