Week Six

[Last week, in It's Curtains, the weather changed, and with it your fortune in Dads. Discord took Salieri out - or perhaps Salieri took Discord out - and left the survivors with that much less impulse control. Nonetheless, a visit from a new friend might have provided a little bit of much-needed hope?

On Sunday morning, you'll find that the other side of the second floor has opened up - as well as the actual intended path to reach the roof garden. You can finally stop climbing up that rope every time you want to have a picnic or secret lover's rendezvous!

Outside, the weather seems to have calmed down. It's sunny again, with rather a lot of clouds. Though it's warm, the atmosphere seems very...still.]

Hi, Farrah! [ he says, brightly. She seems more energetic than earlier, which is good, and he smiles at her as he steps in the door. ]

Do you know much about rabbits? I found this one outside, and I'm not... sure it's a wild one?

[ Boy look at that it sure does look exactly like the plastic rabbit she got from Peregrine, huh. ]

[It really does look like Stew II -- so much that she looks down, to her pile of stuffed toys, and yup, Stew II's still down there! Which only makes her whip her head back to Orpheus, and holy shit, that little thing is breathing and looks warm and soft and she's up on her feet before she's even off the bed-- walking across the bed and then jumping off to run straight up to Orpheus.]

Oh my God. It's a real one! Give me-- [She holds out her hands, drawing a sharp breath in, as if she's remembered her manners and that she's still grounded at the same time] -- please?

[ Orpheus laughs, glad to see her enthusiasm and charmed by the little lapse before she remembered herself, before very carefully passing the rabbit to her. It snuffles, head turning to look at her, but otherwise stays very still and cooperative as it's handed over. ]

I don't think it came out of the vending machine? But I'm not sure how it would've gotten here. Peregrine said there weren't any real animals in the woods. [ He glances down at Farrah's treasure trove of toy animals, and points at the plastic rabbit. ] Can I see that, for a moment? I'll give it back.

[Farrah turns very gentle the moment he hands it over, cradling the precious thing against her, humming soothing murmurs.]

Oh, yeah, go for it.

Wow. You guys look like twins, yes, you do——

[ Orpheus picks up the plastic rabbit and holds it up next to the one in Farrah's arms, frowning a little, thoughtfully. ]

They really do. Do you think it means something?

[ Orpheus can't quite piece it together, it it feels kind of significant somehow. ]

Probably. [She holds the bunny orpheus gave her up, for him to see better--- then forgets that she's looking for an explanation, and just goes back to cooing.]

Whose the softest, most wonderful bunny in the world? It's Soup!

You're... naming the rabbit Soup? [ he asks, blinking at her owlishly and very effectively distracted from the question of what this all means. ]

Yeah. That's okay, right?

Remember when we had those cute fluffy bunny things with horns? I named one of the Stew. I loved Stew. I actually brought him back to Longacre that night, but when I woke up, he was gone. And Hester... told me that he wasn't actually ever real. But I still loved him. And so... this feels kindof like a nice little tribute?

Oh, sure! That makes sense. [ does it though

No but really, it seems cute, even if it was a little baffling at first, and Orpheus smiles at the two of them. ]

I'm glad I could bring them to you, then. You'll take good care of them, right? I'd do it myself, but I don't really know much about looking after pets. I've never had one.

I'll learn everything about rabbits, ever, Orpheus. I'll be such a good bunny mom, I swear. I'll even read a book. [That's like. A pretty big offer she's making here.]

And... you can help, if you want. I'll teach you everything there is to know about having a pet!

[ Look Orpheus is also terrible at reading books he understands the significance of this gesture on some level. ]

And I'd like that. It might be fun? There was never really a good chance for me to keep animals back home. I tried a few times, but my mom didn't really like me bringing lizards and jackrabbits into the house.
