Okay, so, this is after you do the fleshing— get all the fleshy bits, the membrane and stuff off. You soak it in water, for about...a day or two? Enough to get all the hair out— that's if you're goin' for leather that you can work with, if you want the fur still on you gotta be a bit more careful. If you're not usin' the animal brains, then you've got to work with some homemade solutions, and you know, really just grating a bar of soap can work, but there's a bunch of different ways...

[ and then i got too tired of explaining and she continues, talking about the multiple times you need to layer the tanning solution on the hide and then soak it, rinse lather repeat etc etc ]
