He's faltered here and there, he's- dare he say- had a feeling once or twice- but this? This really got him hard...and it makes Varian wonder just what kind of place there is that he's so unwilling to lose.
He wants to help, but...there's not much way he can cheer someone up in a situation like this. He's not good at cheering people up, really...but he feels guilt for how often people are having to do the same for him. Never mind he doubts Discord would be receptive to outright "that's rough, buddy"'s right now.

He'll come seek Discord out after a while has passed, finding him in the library with his lizard. He has no intentions of disturbing the lizard party or her growing castle.
